Whether or not it's medically necessary, you can choose to do genetic testing. Either way we'll ensure you're tested for the right genes, and nothing important gets overlooked.

Genetic testing for hereditary cancer is often covered by insurance if you meet certain criteria, which is something your genetic counselor can answer during your consultation. If covered, your deductible and/or co-insurance likely applies. If your out-of-pocket cost will be over $100, our lab partner will contact you. If not covered by insurance, the self-pay cost is typically $250-$350 through our lab partner.

Yes, doctors can order genetic testing. But most doctors don’t specialize in genetics – and may miss key genes or testing options. Which is why many doctors will refer you to a genetic counselor. At HealthyGene, your genetic counselor will take a detailed personal and family history so you'll know if genetic testing is medically necessary or not – so you can make an informed decision. Whether or not it's medically necessary, you can choose to do testing. Either way we'll ensure you're tested for the right genes, and nothing important gets overlooked. And if you're found to carry a mutation? You’ll already be working with someone who can explain what it means, walk you through your options, and connect you with the right resources – quickly and clearly. Genetic counselors don’t just order tests. They guide you through the entire process, start to finish.

If you're found to carry a cancer gene mutation, your medical care may change in powerful, proactive ways: ✅ More frequent screenings starting earlier in life Example: Women at higher risk for breast cancer are often advised to start screening at age 25, not 40 – and to alternate between annual mammograms and breast MRIs. ✅ Preventive options may be available Some people choose risk-reducing surgery (like preventive mastectomy) to lower their chances of developing cancer. Knowing your risk means you can take action – before anything happens.
