This package includes two private sessions with a licensed genetic counselor:

• 60-minute pre-test appointment: We’ll review your personal and family medical history, discuss your goals, explain which test is most appropriate for you, and arrange the logistics for testing.

• 30-minute results appointment: We’ll go over your test results in detail, explain what they mean for you and your family, and create a clinical action plan.

You’ll also receive:

• A visual family health history (pedigree)

• A written summary of your results and recommendations

• A personalized action plan

• Optional: We can send your summary to your healthcare provider upon request

Your pre-test appointment is all about understanding your history and helping you make informed choices.

We’ll cover:

• Your personal and family health history

• Which test is right for you (and why)

• What the possible results mean – for you and your family

• The benefits, limitations, and privacy considerations of testing

The exact test depends on your history and your goals. In most cases, we recommend a panel of genes related to inherited cancer risk.

Testing is billed separately by the lab.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Insurance may cover the test if you meet certain criteria (based on your personal/family history)

• If covered, it’s still subject to your deductible and co-insurance

• If not covered or if you choose self-pay, the lab fee is typically $250–$350

• Our lab partner will notify you if your out-of-pocket cost exceeds $100 before moving forward

HealthyGene doesn’t bill insurance directly for appointments, but we’ve made it easy to use other options. You can pay using HSA/FSA funds, and we’re happy to provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

For testing, insurance may cover some or all of the cost – we’ll discuss this during your session.​​

You don’t need a strong family history to benefit from proactive genetic testing. Some people have limited family history or were adopted. Testing can still provide valuable insights to guide your care. If you're unsure about testing, you may want to start with the Genetic Check-Up.

That’s completely okay. If you're still deciding, our Genetic Check-Up is a better starting point. It’s a one-time consultation focused on helping you understand your risk and whether genetic testing is right for you – without committing to testing upfront.

The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) is a federal law that protects you from health insurance and employment discrimination based on your genetic information. There are a few important exceptions – and we’ll walk you through what it means for you during your appointment.
